SUMMARY:Vancouver Historical Society
DESCRIPTION:I am excited about speaking at a Vancouver Historical Society event on the many historical aspects of Journeys to the Bandstand. I will talk about how the book chronicles personal histories of the city’s great jazz artists and the history of Vancouver’s jazz scene. I will also talk about my research techniques. As part of the presentation\, I will read excerpts from Journeys to the Bandstand\, show some of the book’s numerous images\, and play snippets of recorded music that inspired me throughout my journey of more than a decade researching and writing the book. Free admission. \nUpdate: I thoroughly enjoyed giving this talk – aside from having a croaky voice that night. Many thanks to the Vancouver Historical Society – especially John Belshaw and Lindsay Gibson. Thanks also to Elwin Xie for tech support that night and making a video of the entire presentation:
